In 1970 Vijayan Menon arrived in the US with a degree in engineering and a dream. His visions transcended the stereotype, he redefined the American dream and made it accessible to thousands of South Indians. With his project, prosperity and material wealth could be obtained without sacrificing tradition and culture to this melting pot society.
Indeed, for the last three decades Tara Arts has served as a cultural Ambassador of South India to members of the Indian Diaspora, bringing various musical and cinema artists from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to countries outside the subcontinent such as the United Kingdom, Canada and, of course, the United States of America. Primarily geared towards community service, Tara Arts has helped more than 50 churches, 20 temples and 100 non-profit Indian organizations in the United States and Canada. From 1970 to 1980 people counted the days untill the next 16mm movie screening. Now a days South Indians look forward to the next big Tara Arts event.
